This Saturday at Stone Brewing, Solana will be launching a new collection that puts the spotlight on Mexico at an all-day pop-up event. Solana is a shoe brand that uses the power of art to promote worldwide solidarity and cultural understanding.
Founder Yasmine Idriss discusses her journey with Solana alongside two other Arab entrepreneurs in New York. She talks about how she turned her passion for authentic travel into a business that aims to overcome borders and highlight the humanity in us all.
"Every shoe collection features a different culture," the Saudi Arabia-born Idriss explained. "We choose a culture, we collaborate with artists from that culture, and all the art that's created for that collection has to say something about the cultures."
Solana travels the world and collaborates with local artists to make handcrafted slip-on shoes that tell a story about a place and its people. The shoes serve as the canvas for the artists’ expression.
Solana wants to present a different, more authentic vision of Lebanon, one that is told through the creations of its local artists. The shoe designs highlight different facets of Lebanon's rich historical and contemporary heritage.
Yasmine Idriss celebrated the launch of her shoe brand Solana at a party in Kalei bar and cafe in Mar Mikhael Thursday as part of Beirut Design Week. Based in New York, Solana combines the comfort of slip-on shoes with bold graphic design.
